Golf packages can be specially designed as part of a conference
or incentive programme. Considering its competitive prices,
equable climate, varied recreational opportunities, and
cultural attractions, golfing in Bali is not only unique
for the region but for all of Asia.
All of Bali’s major golf courses are superbly suited
to MICE activities such as hosted tournaments and other
events, and are able to arrange pairings, scoring, totalling
and awards, with an extensive range of catering support.
Every October, all of the island’s main courses
- Bali Golf and Country Club, Bali Handara Kosaido Country
Club and the Nirwana Bali Golf Club - play host simultaneously
to the Bali Governor’s Cup Golf Tournament which
attracts players from around the world.
Quoting avid golfer and travel writer Jeff Barrus of Island
Life magazine, “Where else do you check the line
of a putt while your caddie holds a parasol over your
head?”
The Bali Golf and Country Club (BGCC), “One of Asia’s
5 Best Golf Courses”, according to Fortune magazine,
is located entirely within the Nusa Dua resort area, home
to the Bali International Convention Centre and over 4000
luxury hotel rooms, making its inclusion for friendly
conference tournaments a highly-qualified ‘natural’.
This 18-hole par-72 championship course, designed by Robin
Nelson and Rodney Wright, is a long-time favourite for
its sea air, challenging holes, coconut palm fringed fairways,
and luscious floral ambience.
The front nine holes rise steadily through rice fields
and stands of old mahogany and teakwood, cutting across
a stream leading to the last hole’s green located
on a peninsula surrounded by a freshwater lake. The back
nine plays through coconut groves, maddening water hazards
and voluminous sand bunkers.
While men sometimes escape to golf courses to avoid feminine
supervision, on this course you’d do well to listen
to what sage advice a woman has to dispense. The female
caddies at Bali Golf and Country Club can give precise
pointers on which club to use and where to putt.
“The design is the best I have seen in Southeast
Asia. The Bali Golf and Country Club course is a five-star
golf resort. A fabulous holiday experience”, exclaims
Henry Cussell, director of golf at The National Golf
Club in Victoria, Australia
The BGCC also offers a complete spa facility and its four
exclusive Wantilan Golf Villas give the truly hardcore
player the opportunity to live in luxury on the very edge
of his or her favourite game. |

into a MICE golf component.
The spectacular five-star Le Meridien Nirwana Golf and
Spa Resort is a premier address for a MICE event. A
Greg Norman signature 18-hole course, it features backdrops
of Indian Ocean seascapes and perhaps the world’s
most photographed temple - the startlingly beautiful
Pura Tanah Lot. The name ‘Nirwana’ derives
from Sanskrit word for ‘heaven’ - no wonder.
The visually stunning, award-winning par-72 course ambles
through rice terraces, wetlands, crosses streams, and
three holes are played on cliffs high over the ocean.
“Equal to the best courses I’ve played on
the Asian PGA Tour, I think Norman has done a hell of
a job... an absolute pleasure...the accommodation, the
course, the caddies, the culture, and the food...it
would take a lot to beat it anywhere”, asserts
Cameron Howell, club professional of Royal Adelaide
Golf Club, South Australia - Asian Golf Monthly.
If the tropical sun deters your golfing ambitions, then
consider travelling into Bali’s picturesque mountain
lake-district for a game at over 1,000 metres above
sea level on a par-72 course that is renowned for its
level of difficulty. The course also holds the distinction
of being the oldest and longest 18-hole course on Bali.
Located near Bedugul on the road to Bali’s north
coast, the Bali Handara Kosaido Country Club was literally
sculpted out of the crater of an extinct volcano. Designed
by Peter Thompson and considered one of the world’s
leading courses, the lush jungle vegetation, misty pines
and nearby peaks leave golfers singing its praises.
What’s more, if the bent grass greens, doglegs
riven by wild rivers and other expertly landscaped challenges
weren’t enough, there’s the added hazard
of the many mountain-dwelling macaque monkeys who make
their home in the environs.

Finally, for a quick round of golf with very reasonable
green fees, there’s nothing that beats the convenience
of Bali’s very first 9-hole course at the Bali
Beach Golf Course in Sanur. This 3560-yard par-36 course
reopened in 2005 with nine newly constructed greens
set in an environment of tall trees, with lakes, mounding
and features providing a city golfing adventure for
players of all skill levels. Located on the grounds
is the Sector Bar & Club, which provides locker-room,
pro-shop, bar, restaurant, and function facilities.
