at the award-winning Bumbu Bali Restaurant and Cooking
School. Established by master chef, prolific author and
photographer, Heinz Von Holzen, and his Balinese wife,
Puji, it is the first authentic Balinese restaurant created
according to the principles used in traditional house
architecture. The restaurant incorporates a professional
cooking school where guests are let in on the secrets
of Balinese cooking.
Nearby is Rumah Bali, their concept of a traditional Balinese
Village and home to a unique and experiential culinary
concept – Pasar Malam. Literally meaning ‘night
market’, the superbly interactive Pasar Malam is
made up of nine Balinese-style pavilions each featuring
a particular aspect of Balinese cuisine, such as spice-making,
arak distilling, rice production, and coffee making.
Spread over a charmingly lush yet breezy two-hectare property,
guests not only have the opportunity try the food in a
clean and pleasant eco-friendly environment, but also
be enlightened about the background and history of every
aspect of the ingredients used in creating Balinese fare.

With chefs preparing food
in front of the guests, each pavilion is both a kitchen
and restaurant in its own right. On certain nights, diners
are serenaded by local traditional art troupes that perform
vibrant gamelan music and dance on the open-air centre
stage.
Capable of catering for groups of up to four hundred guests,
Pasar Malam, with its extra-special Balinese flavour,
is particularly suitable as a unique and memorable MICE
venue.
At Rumah Bali, guests also have the option of staying
in private villa accommodation, which feature fully equipped
kitchens, private plunge pools, large outdoor bathrooms,
and satellite TV, in a homely atmosphere.
